God has been gracious and generous once again. For the next two weeks, I will be given opportunities to share about the calling that I received to minister to the youth in Uganda. Four months ago, at the AIM orientation that was held in Toronto, my financial support was at 0%. I was told of some figures that will go into my support, but nothing was set in stone yet. Today, I am at 83% of my monthly goal and 55% of my one-time goal! Praise God! It took a matter of meeting with a church that I am not a member of to begin this wildfire. After the meeting, that was when the fire turned into flame, where my fear was overcome and my worries were taken away. Individual donors began to come in and some churches began to respond back to my emails with the thought of meeting with me and knowing more about what I will be doing for the next four years.
Many believe that becoming a missionary, serving the Lord, is an easy task. To be honest, it is a very hard task, but by God's grace and strength, those can be overcome. There is a lot of faith involved for the entire process. The process begins with the calling received and believing that God will show you the next huge step you will take. The step I took is a four year commitment to serve the youth in Uganda, when I haven't even been to Uganda before. The next step after that is believing that this is the correct decision, and to have that confirmed, your family is behind you on this one. Then, comes the huger step and that is to make sure your other family is behind you, and that is God's family. Once you've gone through these steps, the harder part of the mountain to climb involves presenting and sharing your calling to others, and trusting that God will provide in His time and as He sees fit, not on your time and not as you see fit. This is hard especially when you think of potential supporters, but actually the people you sort of assume will support you, doesn't, but the ones you assume will not support you, does.
This is where I am at right now in terms of the whole faith process for a missionary. Of course there are many other steps that's coming, but I am not there yet. Some of the other ones include health, persecution, perseverance, encountering the unexpected, spiritual warfare, and much more! All this makes you think, how will YOU climb over such a HUGE mountain. First off, you won't be climbing it by YOUR own strength, but by God's strength. Secondly, one word, faith.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
